“Like, yesterday I saw my ex-girlfriend from college. She was my first true love. My craziest, most obsessive and most intense relationship. The girl most of the songs on Save the World and Living Well are about. She was walking up 2nd ave with her new boyfriend. I said hello—was genuinely super-friendly—but I felt absolutely nothing when I saw her. It’s as if it could have been anybody. I had no feelings whatsoever: I wasn’t excited to see her. I wasn’t jealous of that dude (though he was not psyched to meet me). I wasn’t nervous about talking to her after almost a year of no interaction. I wasn’t angry. Nothing. I felt nothing. And I didn’t even lament having no emotions either. It was whatevs.com. It’s just bizarre how your life can totally revolve around one thing, or one person, and then it can radically and permanently change. And you just adapt to it. And your life goes on almost as if it never existed. And your memories start to almost feel like dreams. You start wondering if certain things actually happened, or if you had just dreamt them once.”
